'A man who dares waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.'
Richard Mason is the premier Personal Trainer and Triathlon Coach in Lancaster area in that he combines over 25 years of real-world fitness experience, plus knowledge gained by extensive study and supported by scientific research data to develop proven techniques
Richard has always loved sport. You could always guarantee an A* grade on Richard's school report for PE and Games. As a schoolboy he represented Lancashire at Cross Country and Rugby.
Richard spent three and a half years in the Royal Marines and it was during his commando training that his enthusiasm and energy for fitness was tamed and focused. On completion of his basic training he was awarded the Kings Badge in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a Royal Marine Recruit. On joining his commando unit he trained in Artic warfare, and qualified as a military ski instructor. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal and also represented the Marines in Rugby, Cross Country Ski-ing and Athletics.
On leaving the Royal Marines he worked for an independent health and fitness club as a fitness instructor and trained women for the first time. When his rugby career ended due to personal injury he took up indoor rowing and competed at the British Indoor Rowing 2002 Championships finishing a credible 13th.
Richard went on to qualify as Level 3 Personal Trainer. At first he believed his target audience would be highly motivated athletes like himself but he soon started getting enquiries from ladies wanting to lose weight. Seeing his customers becoming thinner, fitter, healthier and happier is incredibly rewarding and enjoyable.
Richard's present sport is Triathlon and he has competed in sixteen Ironman Distance races and qualified for the 70.3 Ironman World Championships 2006 in Florida. He has finished 3rd in his age group at Ironman Bolton two years in a row, thus winning a place at the Ironman World Championships 2011 and 2012 in Kona, Hawaii where he competed alongside Craig Alexander, Chrissie Wellington and the best of the rest.
In 2009 Richard founded the City of Lancaster Triathlon Club (COLT) which now has a membership of over 200. He is a British Triathlon Level 3 triathlon coach and has worked with the North-West Academy assisting in the coaching of young talent encouraging and developing youngsters to one day develop as international athletes.
Richard is passionate about what he does and he wants to share this passion and excitement with the people he trains. 'Nothing is more fulfilling that seeing people of all ages embrace exercise, make it part of their lives achieve results they never thought possible and best of all have fun'.
